I always say I'm going to get back to blogging more but then the rest of my life takes over and blogging gets pushed aside. But lately I've been realizing that blogging and photography force me to spend time focusing on the things, big and small, that are good and beautiful in my life. This is something I really need to make time for. I'm sure it's true for all parents, but especially for those of us who have children with special needs, it can be easy to feel like you're drowning in the unrelenting, day-to-day labor of caring for our kids. Especially when one of them spends a large portion of her day crying for no discernible reason (and she's nine and you know she'll probably never outgrow the terrible twos) and the other is... well, a teenager. I find that more and more I can too easily slide into a spiral of putting too much focus on the parts of my life that are hard and perhaps not as rewarding as I'd like them to be. But that's crazy! I have an amazing life. I get to do the thing I love most in the world as a job and I have the most beautiful space to do it in (did I mention that over the last couple of months I moved my studio out of our basement and into my absolute dream space?). So instead of spending my days wishing I could spend more time in this space, I need to focus on how lucky I am to have this place at all. And the myriad other things I am lucky to have. Like the love of my life in bed next to me at night. And a great little house in a great city (that I'm still getting to know and love). And kids who make me smile and laugh more than they make me cry. Haha. But seriously. So more blogging and more photography. Even if it's just for my wife and me to be able to look at regularly and be reminded of how great our crazy little life is.
In jewelry news... I've been so, so productive since moving into the new studio! It's amazing what a difference it makes to my creativity to be in a space that feels right vs one that just meets my needs for space. I'll have some more posts coming up soon with new work (some of it's already available in the shop) and details about Christmas order deadlines, etc.
More soon... ♥
